Our Approach

We’re not your everyday community arts center

At the Open Arts Center, first and foremost, young people will have a place to come and simply be.

They can come and hang out after school, have space to read, create, explore, make friends, work on homework, etc. - a safe and welcoming place to be themselves away from home and school.

Once they’re there, they’ll have the option to enroll in free ongoing classes or workshops taught by our staff or by our diverse and talented Central Oregon community of creatives.

These classes & workshops may include:

  • Painting and drawing

  • Mixed media

  • Digital media

  • Creative Writing

  • Dance and movement

  • Music composition and recording

  • Theater arts

  • Fashion and costume design

Self-Directed Exploration

For those who prefer to engage in their own creative work on their own, The Open Arts Center will provide space and resources for self-directed exploration.

We plan to provide access to:

  • 2D Art supplies

  • Clay

  • Musical instruments

  • Sewing machines

  • Books

  • Digital media tools

  • A recording studio and recording software

  • Cameras and photo-editing software

  • Video cameras and video software
